Douglas has served on several boards and advisory councils, including Focus Brasil Community in Action Awards, the Hispanic Entrepreneurship Initiative (HEI), and the Florida State Soccer Association (FSSA). He previously served as a member of the Citizens Council of the Brazilian Consulate in Miami and has held leadership roles in business and civic organizations in both Brazil and the United States.
His honors include the Order of Rio Branco, among the most prestigious civilian honors bestowed by the Federative Republic of Brazil, conferred by the President of Brazil in recognition of distinguished service and contributions to strengthening international relations; the Lifetime Achievement Rotary Award; the Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World (2025) from The Rotary Foundation; the Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Life Magazine, 2017); the Honorary Recognition Award from the Associação de Pastores Evangélicos (2017); the Business Press Award (Focus Brasil, 2018); the Milton & Bernice Beckerman Award from Community Publishers of Florida; multiple editorial excellence awards from the Free Press Association; and the proclamation of Douglas Heizer Day by the City of Boca Raton in 2009. In 2025, Douglas and his wife, Adinilza “Dini” Heizer, were recognized as Visionary Leaders of the Year at the HHCC Excellence Awards and received the Life of Service Award at the ICYG Community Giants event.
