PBC Parks History – “A County Park for the People”

Dear, PBC Parks and Recreation Team –

This is the next monthly installment in our ongoing series. As we move forward on our CAPRA Accreditation journey, I am sharing with you about our Department’s history – a history of outstanding public service that everyone on our team is a big part of.

In the early 1900’s what is now John Prince Memorial Park was part of a marsh area located west of the Atlantic Coast Ridge. In the 1930’s the area was covered with fill material from development and the dredging of Lake Osborne. Can you picture it?

A World War I veteran, Mr. John Prince was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 1934. The rest is a tale in visionary leadership… Below and linked here is an excellent article written by author Bob Davidsson about John Prince and the history of A County Park for the People.
